The Church of St. Francis of Assisi, Hammerfield is part of the Anglican Parish of Boxmoor, which in turn is part of the Deanery of Hemel Hempstead, in the Diocese of S. Albans (www.stalbans.anglican.org).

St. Francis maintains traditional Catholic faith and practice. It is registered as a “Forward in Faith” Church (www.forwardinfaith.com) and although St. Francis is not a “District Church”, it has nevertheless passed resolutions A, B and C (www.mkanglocatholic.org.uk/resoltns.htm). These are respected in the wider Parish (the other Churches in the parish accept the priestly ministry of women) and in the Diocese, and S. Francis receives the Episcopal care of the Bishop of Richborough, the Rt. Revd. Keith Newton (who as well as being one of the Provincial Episcopal Visitors is also an Assistant bishop in the Diocese of S. Albans). In its unusual circumstances, S. Francis is cared for by a non stipendiary priest, Fr Gordon Adam SSC, (Societas Sanctae Crucis - Society of the Holy Cross - ( www.anglocatholic.com/SSC.htm ) who is licensed with special responsibility for the Church.

St. Francis seeks to work participatively with the other Churches in the Parish of Boxmoor (St. John the Evangelist, Boxmoor and St. Stephen, Chaulden). It shares in the pastoral work of the Parish as a whole such as baptisms and promotes joint worship between the Churches in services of the word. The aim is to demonstrate that difference of view on the matter of the ordination of women does not prevent brothers and sisters in Christ, sharing the bond of baptism, from working together in the service of the Gospel and worshipping together to the praise of the one God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Worship at St. Francis uses modern liturgy with traditional ceremonial, and is enhanced by the use of an extensive private collection of liturgical vestments. St. Francis has an excellent Junior Church which meets approximately once a month. The church isin the process of making the buildings as accessible as possible and has recently installed toilets which make provision for wheelchairs and for baby changing. An induction loop system is already installed.
